The City of Casey is proud to announce the development of ‘Casey Connect’ – an innovative new web community designed to revolutionise the way that residents of Casey access information on services and activities provided by groups in the City of Casey.
How the on-line community can benefit you as an individual user
Whether you’re looking for advice, support, education or leisure groups in your locality, one of the hardest things before now has been finding out what’s available. Casey Connect provides a central point for you to find out about local groups, services, news, activities and more! Local support groups, scout clubs, sporting teams, interest groups and other organisations can build group websites on Casey Connect and you can browse through these groups to find what interests you. Further still, you can apply to join groups’ membership lists, allowing you to access ‘members only’ information and keep abreast of all that’s happening, specific to those groups. You can subscribe to special interest-based e-newsletters and really be a part of what’s going on in your community.
What you get on signing up to the community portal:
- By signing up to the community portal you receive a user account with a user ID and password. This user account provides you with your own personal profile, and a “my stuff” menu, with quick links to all the groups you are a member of
- Once you have signed up you have further access to browse the on-line community. You can search for (and join if you like) groups of all sorts, including everything from advice, support, health and social care, to training, education, sports, recreation and leisure
- You can also participate in on-line polls, feedback, forums, competitions and other activities
- You get your own personal on-line community diary, which includes the dates of all the events run by the groups you are a member of
How the on-line community can benefit you as a Voluntary or Community Group
Let’s face it, most of us do not have the technical skills, equipment or finances to build and maintain our own website. Casey Connect removes these barriers by providing local groups with a free set of web pages that can be built and maintained with the bare minimum of computer skills.
You don’t even need to own your own computer! A range of facilities in the City of Casey provide access to the Internet, including your local library. Click here to find out where these services are available.
What it allows you to do
- Casey Connect is a web-based community portal that gives groups and organisations in the City of Casey a set of easily editable and free web pages.
- Pages can be created and organised to suit each group but typically might include:
- A homepage giving a general overview of your group
- A ‘News’ section to summarise all that’s happening
- A ‘Diary’ section to highlight all your upcoming events
- A ‘Group History’ section to let people know a bit about your group
- A ‘Galleries’ section, with pics of all your activities/events
- A ‘Contact Us’ page
- A ‘Feedback’ section
- You can issue on-line group membership to interested individuals, so you always have a list of your members and their contact details
- You can email your members to update them with news or important announcements
- Your group members will automatically have your group events added to their personal on-line diaries/calendars
- By having a presence on the on-line community those who did not previously know of your organisation will be able to find you using the group search facility. This means you can now reach a broader section of the community, and hopefully increase your membership as a result
- You will be able to network with other organisations by utilising the news section, the events calendar and setting up your own on-line forums
- You can search for and contact other like-minded organisations on the portal, and they can contact you
- Your organisation and its activities can be promoted to everyone in the City of Casey and beyond.
