Our Vicar

 

Our new Vicar, The Reverend Dr David Powys, BA Hons (Melb), BSW (Melb), BTh (ACT), ThD (ACT), took up responsibility for St John's just before Christmas.

 

For the previous 17 years, he was Vicar of St James The Less, Mt Eliza, one of Melbourne's largest Anglican congregations. He is married to Penny (psychologist and social worker) and they have three married children.

 

Ordained for nearly thirty years, David is a biblical scholar who is keen to apply the Bible to everyday life and to build a loving outward looking Christian Community.

 

He is dedicated to ministry in the outer suburbs and put aside a number of wider responsibilities in the Diocese of Melbourne and beyond, to offer for ministry at St John's. He sees Cranbourne as one of the most significant places in Melbourne because of its population, size and expected growth.
