To become a Big Brother or Big Sister, a volunteer must have the ability to relate to young people and demonstrate an interest in their welfare. Potential volunteers will be given the opportunity to complete and return an application form. Once this is received, they will then undergo a comprehensive screening and selection process which includes interviews, provision and checking of three references, and a police check. Successful applicants will also be asked to participate in volunteer training both before and after being matched. Their role, once matched, is expected to compliment the role of the parent, not replace the parent's role.
