Learning through Sharing Day

Learning Through Sharing Day 2009

As part of Children’s Week, the CCK 5- 12 group worked together to hold an event which highlighted wonderful student projects from primary schools within Casey which had been developing through the school year.

Students were at the forefront, presenting on the experiences of their projects to other school communities which offered a chance to share and learn from one another. Teachers, staff from Children’s Services at the City of Casey, parents, friends and other students were present in Council Chambers to listen in, and to enjoy a range of visual images and displays set up by each school demonstrating their project experience.

  Forum

We held a forum, encouraging childrens' participation and giving students a voice about their community.   This included teachers, parents, students and members from various community organisations who support the primary age children in Casey.   Collectively, ideas were formed around how to reach our ideal community and how we are going to do this. Further to these discussions a new action plan was developed around the student's feedback.

Children's Banner project

In 2007 the group successfully applied for a grant to create a banner through the City of Casey Arts and Cultural Grant program.  The funding allowed an artist from the community to help implement the banner project, assisting primary age students in Casey to create a banner of their own art work that reflected the vision -œCelebrate Casey Kids- and children's perspectives of their community.

The banner is available for loan at primary schools and community events. To loan the banner go to the CCK 5 - 12 Banner Loan   page to the expression of interest and fill out your details, one of the committee members will be in touch with you soon.

School Communities Conference 2007

Primary school staff and parents from across the municipality came together at the Berwick Bowling Club to celebrate and foster school communities in the City of Casey.

The evening was facilitated by Dr Jim Cavaye, one of Australia's leading community development practitioners and educators.

Jim assisted parents and school staff to identify practical achievable activities to further engage parents, teachers, students and community members in City of Casey schools, using principles of community development.

The evening was a great opportunity for school staff and parents to reflect together on their school community, discuss opportunities and challenges, and learn from other schools.
