About The Computer and Internet Access Project

Cardinia-Casey Community Health Service is undertaking a project focusing on increasing access to community-based computers and the internet, and low cost computers for purchase in our catchment. Our key partner is GreenPC (Infoxchange).

Computers and the internet are fundamental to participating meaningfully in cultural, social, economic and political aspects of community life. Access facilitates good mental health and wellbeing. Currently, unequal access exists particularly for the disadvantaged.

Computer use and internet usage rates are lower in the City of Casey than for Melbourne as a whole with more non-computer users than computer users. Further, community-based access does not appear to compensate. Residents have to travel to inner city Melbourne to purchase low cost (reconditioned) computers creating issues around accessibility.

The project aims to:

  1. increase access to community-based computers and the internet; and
  2. increase access to low cost (reconditioned) computers for purchase in the Casey catchment.

We hope to set up a retailer of GreenPC reconditioned computers and make links between it and the No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS). We also hope to establish an internet hub which is central, easily accessible by public transport and free to use.

Project workers can be contacted Monday to Thursday during business hours. Alternatively, communication can be made at any time by leaving a message on voice mail or sending an email.
