History - Casey Youth Ambassadors

Short History of CYA

Prior to 1994 the City of Berwick developed a youth group to compliment the Sister Cities Forum (adult reps), this group was called the Sister Cities Youth Ambassadors Berwick Australia (SCYABA)

The aims for this group of young people were to learn about the Sister Cities ideals, develop life skills and leadership skills, participate in civic and community events and develop positive community networks. Also have youth representation at the Sister Cities Forum (SCF) meetings and have the opportunity to attend the annual interstate Australian Sister Cities Association (ASCA) Conferences.

Following on from Council amalgamations in 1994 (Berwick and Cranbourne became Casey) the name of the youth group was changed to Sister Cities Youth Ambassadors Casey Australia (SCYACA)

As the group progressed they attended numerous ASCA Conferences and participated in civic and community events, also increasing their learning about the role of Local Government.

At the end of 2003, the young people in the group were eager to have a name change, focus and terms of reference and began working with young people from CLD backgrounds.  They developed a new logo and name which they formally presented to the Sister Cities Forum members.  Following on during that period Sister Cities Forum also had a change of name which became Casey Global Friendships (CGF)
