MEDIA RELEASE: 31 JANUARY 2008
Devon Meadows tennis enthusiasts are hitting aces now that the courts at Glover Reserve have been resurfaced with Euro Clay.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Janet Halsall officially opened the new resurfaced tennis courts on Sunday, 27 January in front of Devon Meadows Tennis Club officials and members.
-Four courts at Glover Reserve have been resurfaced with Euro Clay providing the significant benefit of making them more drought tolerant. As we continue to see water restrictions in place throughout Victoria, this is of extreme importance to all local communities-, said Cr Halsall.
The new Euro Clay courts do not require watering between sets like the previous surface did, resulting in excellent water savings and increased court access for club members.
In addition to being water-smart, the new Euro Clay surfaces are more stable and have the added benefit of providing greater accessibility.
-The new surface allows people with wheelchairs or walking frames to have access to the courts and participate in the social and physical interaction of competition and play. Council has been working closely with Devon Meadows Tennis Club to develop programs to include people of all abilities and looks forward to these programs commencing-, said Cr Halsall.
The City of Casey provided $95,000 for the project with Devon Meadows Tennis Club contributing $25,000.
-Council is committed to providing first-class sports facilities for the community and recognises the importance of sporting and leisure opportunities for our residents, and the contribution this makes to the wellbeing of individuals.
-We are very pleased to be able to provide this facility for the community and congratulate the Devon Meadows Tennis Club for making a significant contribution to the project-, said Cr Halsall.
