Elly Abrat
I was born in Holland, the youngest of eight children. Australia appealed to my mother's adventurous spirit and in 1959 we settled in Dandenong, Victoria.
My passion for art goes back to early childhood. Art, and in particular portraiture was my favorite subject throughout my school years.
In the early seventies I met an artist on the St Kilda Esplanade who saw my work and offered tuition. He traveled the East Coast so my lessons were cut short. I discovered another wonderful tutor and continued on my way.
In the early eighties I was invited to teach drawing for children and later drawing and painting for adults at the McClelland Guild of Artists in Langwarrin , Victoria .
In 1992 I started conducting children and adult art classes from my home based studio in Narre Warren South, and have continued to do so.
Working as a Community Artist on large art projects with councils, schools and local community groups is also of great interest to me.

In 2006 I travelled to Europe with a group of like minded people on an Arts & Culture Tour. I often reflect back on the works of great artists I had the privilege of studying on the tour.
In 2008 I travelled to the Netherlands and visited many more museums. Hals, Rembrandt and Vermeer are some of my favourite old Masters.
