EmailBRIEF FLEETWOOD HISTORY…
Fleetwood Playgroup has been running for 24 years. It was initiated by Sister Dorothy Rodway, of the City of Berwick Maternal and Child Health Centre in early 1988 where Fleetwood Playgroup’s first sessions were held in Fleetwood Drive, Narre Warren. As Fleetwood Playgroup’s membership grew it has moved to various premises including Talbingo, Jindalee Preschool, Hallam Recreational Hall and now our current location, Gwendoline Children’s Centre.
PARENTS AND CHILDREN LOVE FLEETWOOD PLAYGROUP BECAUSE…
Fleetwood Playgroup has a wonderful room at Gwendoline , with fantastic resources both inside and out for the current 31 families to use. Inside is fully carpeted including a wet-area; a storage room full of fun and educational toys, games, books and dress-ups; chairs and tables for both children and their parents; a supplies cupboard stocked with paints, writing tools and a weekly activity organised for each child; and a kitchen complete with microwave and coffee/tea making facilities.
Outside is a fully landscaped garden, including large sandpit, paths and grassed areas and a large storage shed full of bikes, climbing frames, sandpit toys and many more fun activities.
Mum’s Groups are welcome at Fleetwood Playgroup . Some of the groups at Fleetwood began as ‘New Mother’s Groups’ with the City of Casey when the first child in each family was a few months old and after a couple of years of weekly get-togethers decided to join a ‘playgroup’. These groups have a wonderful bond, as both the mums and children have known each other for such a long time and most have had second and even third children all attending Fleetwood Playgroup.
New groups and or individual families are always welcome. Some groups are made up of individual families looking for a playgroup for their child(ren) and members within these groups form lasting friendships as time goes by. Playgroup is a fantastic way to meet new families in similar circumstances and for both children and mums to find lots of fun and support!
